Joomla Templates

While Joomla has more benefits than you can poke a stick at, one of the stand outs is the use of templates.

When we say templates, we're not talking about the run-of-the-mill, cheap and nasty templates that make your website look like it was designed by a long-sighted accountant (no offence), but beautifully designed, configurable and flexible templates that make your organisation look good.

All Joomla templates must follow a set of design and technical rules while remaining flexible enough that they can be customised to suit you. There are literally thousands of templates available for customising or we can create one for you.

When choosing a Joomla template for your website, make sure it includes the following:

• Plenty of module positions, so you have the freedom to create the website you want.
• A collapsible framework where the content expands and contracts to fit the available space.
• An administration interface that allows you to easily set the parameters of your website.
• Adheres to the current CSS and XHTML standards.
• Is compatible with all of the major browsers.
• Is source ordered for best search engine results.
• And last but not least…includes after-sales support from the template creator.

Not all Joomla templates are created equal

A word of warning however…not all templates are created equal. Having worked with a number of template providers, we know which ones to use and which ones to avoid. For example, two of our favourite template providers are RocketTheme and YOOtheme. Both create gorgeous templates built using very flexible frameworks, which allow your website to grow with you.

Here’s a website we created earlier. First, we have the original website. Taking design cues from the logo and direction from the client we selected an appropriate template. The template was then refined to match the clients requirements which results in a customised website implementation.

Creating your own Joomla template
